No. 97-ranked and unseeded Wu was never a candidate at any point to win the Dallas Open title this week, but he did the impossible and won five consecutive matches where he was considered an underdog, most notably against No. 3 seed Denis Shapovalov in Round 2 and No. 1 seed Taylor Fritz in the semifinals. His first ATP title win will move him all the way up to a career-high ranking of No. 58.
