Suffers first UFC defeat
Mitchell lost to Ilia Topuria via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:10 of Round 2 at UFC 282 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell has been entirely reliant on his wrestling game for success early in his UFC run, but his takedowns weren't landing in this one, and he was unable to overcome it. Bryce was credited with just one successful try on nine attempts and that came with limited time in the opening round, and Mitchell was unable to do much with his positional advantage. When the two men were standing at distance on the feet, Mitchell was dominated. It's Bryce's first loss in seven UFC bouts, and it doesn't figure to impact his long-term stock all that much, but it shows the 28-year-old Arkansas native has work to do in order to compete with the best in the world at 145 pounds.

Fight up in the air
Mitchell's scheduled bout at the UFC event Nov. 5 is on hold after his opponent Movsar Evloev was forced to withdraw with an undisclosed injury, Carlos Contreras Lagaspi of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell's participation at the UFC event Nov. 5 is in jeopardy after this withdrawal by fellow featherweight Evloev. However, unbeaten lightweight Ilia Topuria, who is coming off a second-round knockout against Jai Herbert in March, is willing to step in on short notice for this bout, according to Contreras. Either way, the promotion will scramble to find a new opponent for Mitchell as soon as possible.

Blows past Edson Barboza
Mitchell defeated Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-26, 30-27) at UFC 272 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Watching Mitchell fight isn't a particularly pleasing visual experience, but the guy is an elite wrestler, and he absolutely dominated Barboza here despite the fact he hadn't fought in 17 months. Bryce predictably came up short in the very few striking exchanges between the two men, so he responded by pinning Edson to the mat for nearly the entire fight. In a bout which lasted 15 minutes, Mitchell was credited with 11:28 worth of control time. He landed all four of his takedown attempts. It's fair to wonder how Mitchell will perform if he faces an opponent who is able to remain upright against him, but he clearly has a world-class skill to fall back upon in the event of trouble. Props to Mitchell for announcing in his post-fight interview that he will be donating half his fight purse ($45,000) to children in his native Arkansas with severe medical issues. Well done, Bryce, but he'll get to keep his check, as UFC President Dana White announced afterwards the the UFC instead will cover that donation.
